South Africa Terminates Anti-Dumping Investigation Against Chinese Hexagon Head Screws and Bolts

The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) issued an official notice on 5 February 2026, formally terminating the anti-dumping investigation into other fully threaded hexagon head screws and other hexagon head bolts (excluding bolt ends, screw studs and screw studding) originating in or imported from the People’s Republic of China.

The anti-dumping investigation was initiated on 26 July 2024, following a complaint filed by the South African Fasteners Manufacturers Association (SAFMA). Pursuant to Section 20 of South Africa’s Anti-Dumping Regulations, all anti-dumping investigations must be completed within 18 months of initiation. The statutory time limit for this investigation expired on 26 January 2026. As the investigation could not be completed within the prescribed period, ITAC terminated the proceedings in accordance with the law.

ITAC clearly stated in the notice that, due to the failure to complete the investigation within the statutory time limit, the Commission no longer has the authority to proceed with the investigation or impose anti-dumping duties on the products concerned.

Following the termination of the investigation, South Africa will not impose anti-dumping duties on imports of the aforementioned other fully threaded hexagon head screws and other hexagon head bolts (excluding bolt ends, screw studs and screw studding) from China. Import duties on the relevant products will remain unchanged.

This decision is of significant importance to both Chinese fastener exporters and local South African buyers:

For Chinese enterprises: Relevant products exported to South Africa will continue to enjoy normal trade treatment, avoiding additional tariff costs and helping to stabilize exports to the South African market.

For the South African market: Local manufacturers and buyers can continue to source high-quality fasteners from China at competitive prices, ensuring supply chain stability.

This termination decision shall take immediate effect from the date of publication of this notice, and the investigation proceedings are hereby terminated.
