China-Africa Trade Hits Record High: Bright Prospects for Chinese Fasteners in Africa

This year marks the 70th anniversary of China-Africa diplomatic relations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges.China-Africa trade reached 2.49 trillion yuan in 2025, up 18.4% year-on-year, setting a new record. China has been Africa’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years.
For the fastener industry, Africa’s market potential is growing rapidly. In 2025, China’s fastener exports to Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, Nigeria and Kenya all ranked among the top 50 global destinations. Rising African buyer interest at industry exhibitions also reflects stronger market demand.
Strong growth in upstream industries has further boosted fastener demand. In 2025, Hunan’s construction machinery exports to Africa surged 75.9% year-on-year. Increased exports of bulldozers, excavators and other equipment directly drive demand for supporting fasteners and spare parts.
Africa’s huge infrastructure funding gap — shortfall of $68–108 billion annually — provides long-term demand for Chinese fasteners.
Trade policy has seen positive changes. On February 5, 2026, ITAC terminated anti-dumping duties on certain Chinese hexagon screws and bolts, stabilizing export expectations. However, South Africa’s safeguard measures on steel threaded fasteners (44.04% duty) remain in place until July 2026, requiring continued caution.
Leading Chinese firms are moving from product exports to standard exports, promoting Chinese technical certifications in Africa.
With the upcoming zero-tariff policy and easing trade frictions, African markets including Egypt, South Africa and Nigeria offer great opportunities. Chinese fastener enterprises are advised to study local regulations and expand channels to seize the benefits of Africa’s industrialization.
